About a month ago, I came up with the idea of a newsletter where I rank the biomes.
It’s been sitting in my Substack drafts empty for about a month.

An artifact of a long-gone time, of many Ritams past. I don’t know or recognize the man who wrote this title. I am different now. Deep down in my core, the great machine has been considering the question of “what do I think about biomes” for a full month. Means the answer will be equal parts eloquent, pithy, witty, and wise, with a touch of humor (the final prize) (as you make your way through the post below) (ponder my choices/don’t rush/go slow).
Taiga Taiga, burning bright… need I say more?
… need I say more?
Cool name on this one. Need I say more?
Was the yellow text a bad idea here? Feel like it’s dicey. Font’s nice though right? Sumptuous ahh font right there. I mean, look at that r
Love the variable thickness of the lines on this. I recently learned a bit more about typeface design from this awesome and in-depth article about the “Gorton” typeface, so I’m looking at this with a bit more interest than I normally would. Feeling like fucking 99% invisible right now lmao
And here’s a pull quote that you won’t find anywhere in the actual post. I put it here to mess with you. Don’t go looking for it!
The name of the yellow font is “Apple Myungjo.” It’s actually meant to display Korean characters. The Latin characters are supposedly derived from Century Schoolbook.
Just mashed these together and considered them one thing. Doing to these guys what everyone sometimes does to “Africa.”
Damn. Wish I saw this photo before I made all the above graphics. Would have probably made this number one.
Turning ‘round the old spruce three times, you feel something shift in the tenor of your surroundings. The moss beneath your feet feels softer. The light beams shining through the trees differentiate. There is a stillness in the forest, but it doesn’t feel dead. It thrums with life in ways you didn’t know possible, greenery entering and dancing around your periphery, playing with your senses until you feel overwhelmed with connection. A voice slices through the timeless moment.
“Who are you?” it asks.
“I am no one and nothing,” you answer. “I once was but now I’ve experienced this place, this way.”
“Welcome, my child,” it says.
“Wait,” you say. “What do I do now?”
The voice pauses for a second.
“And here’s a pull quote that you won’t find anywhere in the actual post. I put it here to mess with you. Don’t go looking for it!”
